Ash Wednesday is on March 5th. We will have services at both 11:30am (traditional) and 7:30pm (contemporary).
LENT 2025: Witnesses to the Passion
The Lenten season invites Christians to reflect on the account of Jesus’ suffering and crucifixion. Forty six days after it begins on Ash Wednesday (forty days plus Sundays), Christians gather on Easter Sunday to celebrate the triumph of Jesus’ resurrection and the hope it beings to all who believe.
All four Gospel writers—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—devote a substantial portion of their account of Jesus’ life to the last week before He died. The emphasis varies, and so do some of the incidents the writers are moved by the Holy Spirit to include.
For example, only John includes the name of the temple slave who lost his ear to Peter’s sword. His name was Malchus. Have you ever wondered what it might be like to hear ‘the rest of the story’ from Malchus’ perspective?
Our Lenten midweek series, “Witnesses to the Passion,” will feature first-person messages from Biblical figures such as Malchus, Peter, Pontius Pilate, Annas, Mary, and Joseph of Arimathea. This creative approach, which was used during our most recent Advent services, helps bring the story of our Lord’s Passion to life in a vivid and memorable way. Please join us on Wednesdays beginning March 5 at 11:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. and journey with us to the cross and empty tomb of Jesus.
Pastor Matzke.
